What we collect, and why
| What we ask for | Why we ask for it |
|---|---|
| Your name | So we can address you properly when we reply |
| Your organisation | To understand who the training is for |
| Your email address | To reply to your enquiry |
| Your phone number (optional) | To call you back if that is easier than email |
| Qualification of interest and approximate cohort size | To prepare a relevant proposal rather than a generic one |
| Anything you write in the message box | To understand what you are trying to achieve |
We do not use this information to build a profile of you. We do not make automated decisions about you. We never sell it.
Our lawful basis
We rely on legitimate interests to reply to you. You have asked us about our courses, and replying is the obvious and expected use of the details you gave us.
If you tick the box asking to hear about future courses and cohort dates, we rely on your consent for that specific purpose. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing askus@smartedgetraining.com, and withdrawing it does not affect our reply to your original enquiry.
If you go on to book a course, we then use your details to deliver the training you have bought — that is, to perform our contract with you.
Who sees it
- Our team. Enquiries arrive in a shared mailbox monitored by the people who handle course enquiries, and are passed to the relevant course lead.
- Microsoft. Our email and the systems behind this website run on Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure, under contracts that require them to protect your information and use it only on our instructions.
- Nobody else. We do not share your details with any other organisation unless we are legally required to.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Enquiries are processed and stored within the United Kingdom.
Where an enquiry does not lead to a booking, we delete it 24 months after our last contact with you. We have chosen 24 months because our courses run in annual cohorts, and people often come back to us a year or more after first asking.
Where an enquiry leads to a booking, your details become part of the customer record and are kept for six years after the end of our relationship, in line with the rules on keeping business and tax records.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- Show you what we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete it where we have no continuing reason to keep it
- Stop or limit how we use it
- Object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests
- Send it elsewhere in a portable format, where that right applies
Email GDPR@smarttar.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
Cookies and measurement
This website sets only the cookies needed to make it work. It does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use them to follow you across other websites.

If you need this in another format
